77-Year-Old Woman Found Deceased in Residence Results in Murder Charge

On Monday, 05/09/11, at approximately 1020 hours, Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Sweet Street in Winfield for a report of a deceased 77-year-old female. Upon conclusion of the initial investigation at the scene, members of the Greater St. Louis Major Case Squad were requested to assist with the investigation of a possible homicide.

Twenty-five detectives from the major case squad, along with members of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, gathered information and followed up on all leads in reference to the case.

At the conclusion of the investigation William Galvin, 50,of Winfield, was charged with second-degree murder. He was staying with his girlfriend’s mother, Bonnie Lee Brown, 77, and was caring for Brown while the girlfriend was in jail. Galvin is being held in lieu of a $250,000 cash-only bond.

Galvin has also been charged with financial exploitation of the elderly after he attempted to gain control over Brown’s bank account the day her body was found.
