On December 20, 2018 at approximately 22:49 p.m., an enclosed construction trailer was stolen from the 400 block of Cass Drive (new addition to Rockport Subdivision) off Highway U, in southern Lincoln County.
The video shows the suspect’s Chevrolet Suburban leaving the scene with the stolen trailer.
On Saturday, December 29, a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle seen towing the stolen trailer was located along the 400 block of Blue Bunting Drive, in Lincoln County. Detectives made contact with 30-year-old Kristen Zinselmeier, of Moscow Mills, who gave consent to search the Suburban sitting in her driveway.
Zinselmeier stated the truck belonged to her mother but she was driving it.
During the consent search, detectives found several stolen items from the trailer sitting in the Suburban. The Suburban was towed from the property pending the application of a search warrant to recover the stolen items.
On Monday, December 31, 2018, the St. Charles County Police Department was contacted by an owner of a horse stable near O’Fallon. According to the owner, Kristen Zinselmeier called her and asked her if she would remove the trailer from the property. Zinselmeier told the owner her and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Mitchell Kupfenstiner, of Moscow Mills, stole the trailer from a construction site a few weeks earlier and needed it moved.
The owner refused and reported the conversation to law enforcement. St Charles County Sheriff’s Department towed the trailer from the property.
On January 3, 2019, the Sheriff’s Office interviewed a witness who stated he received cellular messages from Kupfenstiner containing pictures of ladders, asking him to buy them. Feeling uncomfortable about the transaction the witness declined.
On January 3, Mitchell Kupfenstiner was arrested at his residence. Detectives attempted to interview him but he refused.
Kupfenstiner is charged with felony Stealing over $750 and currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $25,000 cash only bond. Other conditions of bond may apply.
Kristen Zinselmeier is currently wanted by the Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is encouraged to call 636-528-8546 ex. 3240.
