On July 08, 2011 The Elsberry Police Department began investigating the disappearance of Sherri Jane Wood, a 50-year-old white female. During their investigation, information lead them along with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office to the end of Hwy P at the Mississippi River where property of Sherri Wood was located near the bank of the river.

On July 15, 2011 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation at the request of Chief Robert Bodley of the Elsberry Police Department. Lincoln County Detectives confirmed through relatives that a suicide note found at Sherri Wood’s residence was written by her.
