Elsberry Police Chief Rob Marchbanks approached Sheriff Cottle this earlier this week to form a temporary task force for the apprehension of 30-year-old Timothy “Tubby” Golden, Jr. and 35-year-old Jesse Simmons, both of Elsberry.

Both Golden and Simmons were wanted for multiple stealings in both Elsberry and unincorporated Lincoln County and have a history of running from law enforcement.  Golden stole Elsberry’s municipal Judge’s Polaris side-by-side and stashed it in some woods nearby.

According to investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and Elsberry Police Department, the pair were stealing displaced equipment, mowers and ATV’s moved to higher ground from the recent record breaking Mississippi River flooding in May and June.

Investigators recovered other items and it is unknown who the victims are.  Detectives are actively identifying the equipment and returning it to the proper owner.

Simmons was taken into custody on an active warrant out of Elsberry and is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $2,100 cash only bond.

Golden is charged with First Degree Tampering and is housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $2,500 cash only bond.  Golden also has two outstanding Elsberry warrants.

Investigators expect additional charges in this case.
