COLD CASE DETECTIVES CRACKS 14-YEAR-OLD LINCOLN COUNTY MURDER CASE

Eighteen months ago, Sheriff John Cottle assigned a cold case detective to look into the 2004 murder of Byron Owens.  Byron Owens was shot five times in Lincoln County near Truxton.

The cold case detectives worked tirelessly to acquire First Degree Murder Warrants for both 36-year-old Joseph Harrell, of Warrenton and 57-year-old Daniel Russell, of Tipton, Missouri.

Russell was due to be released from the Department of Corrections and was picked up by detectives early this morning.  Harrell was taken into custody by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the U.S. Marshal’s Office at his home in Warrenton.

Sheriff John Cottle will hold a press conference at the Sheriff’s Office today at 3 p.m.  The Sheriff’s Office is located at 65 Business Park Drive, in Troy, Missouri.
