On April 19, 2017, detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a criminal complaint of domestic assault after being contacted by medical staff in the Emergency Room of Progress West Hospital, in O’Fallon.
According to the 24-year-old victim, she attended 21-year-old Levi Dakota Lauck’s (of Lincoln County), family function in Wentzville on April 16, 2017. While at the family function, the victim said she posted a Snapchat from her phone at the family function which upset Lauck causing a verbal and physical altercation.
Upset with the situation, both left in Lauck’s vehicle for his residence along the first block of Portwood Meadows in unincorporated Lincoln County. Due to Lauck’s level of alcohol intoxication, family members insisted the victim drive the vehicle. Shortly after leaving the residence, Lauck made the victim stop the car so he could drive home. The victim told investigators Lauck’s anger intensified and repeatedly struck her this his hand as he drove.
The situation deteriorated when Lauck stopped and retrieved a hammer from the trunk of his vehicle somewhere in Lake St. Louis. As Lauck drove to his residence he struck her with the hammer’s blunt and claw ends to the face and body multiple times. The victim grabbed a small leather backpack from the vehicle to help shield the blows. The hammer assault continued until they arrived at Lauck’s residence.
Once at the residence, Lauck forced the victim out of the car and made her get undressed to take a shower. While she undressed, Lauck kicked her in the face knocking out a front tooth. The physical abuse continued in the residence for some time before the victim was able to escape on foot and ran naked to a nearby neighbor’s home. The neighbor provided shelter overnight before taking the victim to her parent’s home in O’Fallon.
The victim initially checked herself into Progress West Hospital for her injuries on Monday, April 17, 2017, and asked hospital officials not to contact law enforcement. The victim was discharged from the hospital the same day but returned on April 19, 2017, because of complications associated with her injuries sustained during the assault. At that time, law enforcement was contacted.
Detectives observed the victim’s left ear swollen to the point of closure, her left eye, arms and legs display discoloration of the skin resulting from underneath bleeding, a laceration to the left hand and she was diagnosed with a closed head injury.
Lauck was taken into custody on Thursday, April 19, 2017, and charged with Felony First Degree Kidnapping, Felony First Degree Domestic Assault Causing Serious Physical Injury, Felony Second Degree Domestic Assault and Misdemeanor Fourth Degree Domestic Assault. Lauck is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $200,000 cash only bond with no contact with the victim and house arrest by GPS monitoring upon release. Other conditions of bond may apply.
