LINCOLN COUNTY MAN ATTEMPTS TO RUN OVER DETECTIVE

On Monday, detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that a stolen trailer was sitting at a residence along the 100 block of Black Oak, in Lincoln County.  When detectives arrived they made contact with a female at the residence who said 35-year-old Lance Johnson, of Lincoln County, was out in back.

When detectives approached, they observed Johnson sitting in a truck.  When they announced themselves, Johnson accelerated toward a detective and drove into a creek embankment, narrowly missing the detective.

Johnson attempted to drive down embankment while detectives gave Johnson verbal commands to shut off his truck. While the truck was still in motion, Johnson yelled, “there’s a baby in here” and said he did nothing wrong.

Eventually the vehicle stopped and Johnson was taken into custody, a female along with a 10-month-old child also exited the vehicle.  Detectives observed two glass smoking pipes and a syringe in the vehicle.

The child and female were not injured during the incident.

Prosecutors charged Johnson with Second Degree Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer and he is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail. Honorable Judge James Beck set bond at $50,000 cash only.  Other conditions of bond may apply.

Additional charges are expected.
