On March 10, Deputies responded to the 300 block of Spring Valley Drive, in Lincoln County, for a domestic disturbance involving a firearm. When deputies arrived, 66-year-old Paul Ernest, of Lincoln County, was standing outside of the residence.

According to the victim, he and Ernest got involved in a verbal altercation over the children living in the residence. The verbal altercation escalated to a physical assault causing the victim to retreat to various rooms in the home to escape the situation.

The victim told deputies he was sitting in the laundry room with the door closed to avoid confrontation with Ernest.  When Ernest stopped yelling, he left the laundry room and headed to the basement. The victim said as he walked down the stairs he saw Ernest approach, point a shotgun toward him and discharge it toward him blowing a hold in the drywall.

No one was seriously injured in the home and witnesses in the home corroborated the victim’s statement. Ernest refused to speak to law enforcement.

Prosecutors charged Ernest with Armed Criminal Action and Attempted Domestic Assault in the First Degree.  Ernest is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail.  Honorable Judge James Beck set bond at $75,000 cash only with no contact with the victim, no possession of firearms and house arrest if released on bond.  Other conditions of bond may apply.
