On January 5, 2015, Lincoln County Deputies were dispatched to the first block of Darrell Drive, in Winfield, reference possible child abuse. Deputies spoke with a 14-year old male, who disclosed his step-father, 40-year old, Robert James Davis, Jr., had thrown him down a flight of stairs in the family home and choked him until he could not breathe while living in Kansas.
In the morning hours of January 6, 2015, Lincoln County Detectives interviewed the 14-year old victim who told investigators his step-father, Robert Davis, was extremely violent toward him. During many incidents, Davis would punch him in the eye, nose and face, causing swelling and bleeding. On one separate occasion, Davis became angry and pushed the victim down a flight of stairs in a residence along the 400 block of Santa Cruz, in Moscow Mills, when the victim tried to call 911 Davis smashed the phone breaking it.
In another case in Winfield, while residing along the first block of Darrell Drive, the victim explained he was beaten by a leather belt and verbally abused by Davis. Davis suggested multiple times the victim should “kill himself.” Detectives discovered years of abuse, which appeared to become more frequent and severe over the past 12-months.
Davis admitted to hitting the victim but told investigators he was only trying to discipline the child.
Detectives also discovered, on April 25, 2001, Davis was convicted of Statutory Rape 2nd Degree, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and failed to register once he moved to Lincoln County.
Davis is charged with four Felony counts of Abuse or Neglect of a Child and once Felony count of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. Davis is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $125,000 cash only bond and no contact with the victim. Other conditions of bond may apply.
Victim was placed in protective custody and is in the care of a family member.
