MOSCOW MILLS MAN ARRESTED FOR VEHICLE TAMPERING

On December 9, Moscow Mills Police Department started investigating the criminal complaint of Tampering with a Motor Vehicle.  According to the victim, he parked his 2014 Peterbilt semi-truck along Blackburn Court, in Lincoln County, that Saturday and by Sunday it was gone.

On Monday, Moscow Mills Police Department transferred the case to the Sheriff’s Office for further investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office spoke with a person of interest who said he received a call from 22-year-old Robert Bertels, of Moscow Mills, who needed a ride to his job.  The person of interest said he dropped off Bertels to get the 2014 Peterbilt semi-truck and followed it to Costco in St. Peters.

The trailer was detached from the semi-truck and left in the parking lot.  The semi-truck then traveled to a parking lot in a conservation area near Hazelwood and left.  The person of interest then drove Bertels back to his residence in Moscow Mills.

Investigators questioned Bertels who denied the accusations.

Bertels is charged with Felony First Degree Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $25,000 cash only bond.  Other conditions of bond may apply.
