O’FALLON MAN CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT IN HAWK POINT

During the evening hours of May 17, 2020, deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of St. Michelle Street, in Hawk Point, for a trespassing complaint.

According to witnesses, they heard a firearm discharge one time near their residence. Witnesses told law enforcement they observed the male victim standing outside a home and thought he was trespassing on the property. The witnesses detained the victim and called the Sheriff’s Office.

While the victim was being detained, 25-year-old Austin Brazil, of O’Fallon, Missouri, walked onto the property and started to physically assault the victim, striking him multiple times to the head with his fist and then left the area.

Approximately two minutes later, Brazil returned to assault the victim a second time. During the assault, Brazil shot the victim in the stomach with his 9mm handgun.

Law enforcement took Brazil in custody and during his interview, he told investigators he stepped back and pulled out his handgun shot the victim.

The victim was transported to St John’s Mercy and is in serious condition.

Prosecutors charged Brazil with First Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action and he is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail. Honorable Judge Greg Allsberry set bond at $200,000 cash only.  Other conditions of bond may apply.
