O’FALLON MAN CHARGED WITH FORGERY IN LINCOLN COUNTY

In October, detectives with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a fraud complaint.  According to the Lincoln County victim, several checks were cashed against her People’s Bank and Trust account.  Investigators learned more than $450 worth of fraudulent checks made out to 42-year-old Matthew May, of O’Fallon, from October 18 through 22, 2018.

The check signature not a match the victim’s and it is believed May stole a checkbook when he worked for the victim.

Investigators caught up with May Friday after two-weeks of stalling law enforcement’s request for an interview.  According to May, he cashed the checks for services rendered to the victim but did not have an explanation for the different signatures.

May is charged with felony Forgery and is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $20,000 cash only bond. Other conditions of bond may apply.
