On January 22, 2020, Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wood alleged the Sheriff’s Office released information being disseminated outside normal investigative channels.
As a result, the Sheriff’s Office began an investigation of the allegations, which revealed improprieties involving the legal process by the Lincoln County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecuting Attorney Mike Wood.
These improprieties compelled investigators to review and seek remedies within the criminal justice system. To date, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office filed a formal complaint with the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, Sheriff Cottle presented the improprieties to the Associate and Circuit Judges of Lincoln County and the Criminal Investigations Division provided information to the Missouri Attorney General’s Office for review.
