On July 28, 2020, around 9pm, investigators with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a homicide that occurred along Highway W.

Three subjects were driving along Highway W, just west of Elsberry, when the vehicle stopped. Two of the three occupants exited the vehicle. While the driver attempted to exit the vehicle, a 54-year-old white male occupant, without provocation, stabbed the driver in the back of the neck. After being assaulted, the driver obtained a firearm and discharged one round into the assailant.

The assailant was pronounced lifeless at the scene. The third party witness corroborated the statements of the driver.

The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The suspect offender’s next of kin have not been notified as of this date.

The case will be forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
