Matthew Brown

On March 24, investigators with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were called to the first block of Sam’s Drive, in unincorporated Lincoln County, for a burglary.

According to the victim, he went to sleep for the night and sometime between midnight and 1 a.m., he woke to someone rummaging in his bedroom’s closet. After the initial shock, the victim challenged the suspect and recognized him as 28-year-old Matthew J. Brown, of Lincoln County, the victim’s neighbor.

Brown quickly fled the bedroom and residence with a .22 caliber rifle and a shotgun. After a short chase, the victim returned to his home to inspect his belongings when he noticed his cellular phone and his car keys were also missing. Within minutes, the victim saw his vehicle leaving his driveway.

According to the victim, he recently moved into his home. During his move, Brown approached him, identified himself as his neighbor and asked to help move his belongings in, which the victim accepted.

Later that morning, Brown crashed the victim’s car in St. Charles and was admitted to St Joseph’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Matthew Brown is charged with First Degree Burglary, two counts of Theft of a Firearm and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. Brown is currently housed in the Lincoln County Jail under a $50,000.00 cash only bond. Other conditions of bond may apply.
